Trial 1:
Limitations of Education: Created with both off white and blue painter's tape. The height exceeds 5' and the width slightly falls short of the goal of 5', at 4.3'. The depth is only 2' (not entirely photographed as it descends down the steps and is blurred from the light entering the doorway). Titled Limitations of Education because the school seat is taped in place to mock the single-mindedness and lack of exploration in certain school systems. (Originated from the movement to standardize education causing a decline in funds given to the musical and artistic programs for students.)
Trial 2:
Trapped: Created with off white painter's tape. The height exceeded 5' and the width falls short at only 3'. In order to compensate for the shortened width, the depth is 5'.
Titled 'Trapped' because of the limited space as well as the poster of the pop star who appears to be "trapped" in pop culture or in this case, "contemporary tape-drawing" culture. Basically displaying the limitations that artists set for themselves when they identify with a genre. This relates back to the confined space I chose for this drawing.
Trial 3:
Which Way is Out? : Created with off white painter's tape (varied sizes) as well as clear packing tape. (Difficult to photograph!) Height and width exceed 5'. This spatial drawing displays an alternative exit to the room which is linked to the actual doorway of the room using clear packing tape. By opening the door itself, it would cause a chain reaction to open the second doorway created on the floor. This relates to the overall idea that everything we do, has a direct impact on something or someone else. Titled, "Which Way is Out?" to mock the fact that it would not matter which door gets chosen. Everything we choose to do, or not do, impacts the outcome in a different, yet equal way because everything is connected.
